ONGC & Ekjyot Foundation Host 73rd Free Eye Camp in Patiala | Combat Preventable Blindness

Ekjyot Charitable Foundation Punjab, in collaboration with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) India, successfully organized yet another mega free eye camp held in the precincts of Gurdwara Singh Sabha, opposite Global Eye Hospital, Patiala, on 20th April 2025. This camp is part of their joint initiative to Combat Preventable Blindness.

Under ONGC’s CSR-funded project, the foundation will conduct 4,000 cataract surgeries for low-income populations across Punjab and Rajasthan within seven months. Beginning December 2024, 2,900+ cataract surgeries have been performed through 72-odd free eye camps, restoring vision for underserved communities. The project is titled ‘Combat Preventable Blindness by Offering Low-Income Patients & Underserved Populations Surgical Treatment for Cataracts (Motiyabind) in the Identified Districts of Punjab & Rajasthan.

The Patiala camp witnessed massive public participation where visiting elite patients were given free screenings, consultations, and cataract surgeries to economically disadvantaged patients, reflecting ONGC’s commitment to social welfare and Ekjyot Foundation’s dedication to accessible healthcare.

Chief Guest Ms. Reena Jaitly, Independent Director, ONGC, praised the initiative: “ONGC is proud to partner with Ekjyot Foundation in this noble mission to eliminate preventable blindness. Healthcare accessibility is a key pillar of our CSR commitment, and this project exemplifies how corporate-social partnerships can transform lives. Every cataract surgery brings vision, hope, and dignity to beneficiaries.

Senior Eye Surgeon Dr Manpreet Singh of Ekjyot Charitable Foundation, said, “We are grateful for ONGC’s generous support, enabling us to bring light back into the lives of thousands. Dr Manpreet Sigh, rated among the best cataract surgeons in Punjab, added, “Our field units specialize in eye camps for the poor and underserved. Our foundation is committed to meeting the target and ratifying the trust imposed by ONGC in our mass camp abilities.”

The chairman of Ekjyot Charitable Foundation, Dr Sanjeev Duggal, affirmed his commitment that such an initiative will continue to benefit thousands of needy eye patients in Punjab and adjacent states. Dr Kashish Gupta, an ace eye surgeon with Max Healthcare, thanked the members of the Civil Society, press, and ONGC officials at the event.
