What is Cataract

A disorder involving human eye – one or both; cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye that affects vision. Most cataracts are related to aging but not all. Eye Injury is the other lead cause. Some cataracts are Congenital. Diabetes could also lead to cataract. Cataracts cannot spread from one eye to the other. Estimates peg at more than a million new cataract cases every year in India. Most of these are treatable but many can’t afford even the not-so-costly treatment. The main symptom is blurry vision. Cataract determination requires a medical diagnosis. Treatment generally warrants the cloudy lens to be replaced with a clear, artificial lens. This (few minute) surgery is generally a safe, outpatient procedure & patient can resume full duty/work within a week. A cataract is not a growth or tumor
